Ward Temple & Family History Plan
As one of the 4 missions of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Redeeming the Dead is an essential part of the Gospel. Elder David A. Bednar has said “as members of Christ’s restored church, we have the covenant responsibility to search out our ancestors and provide for them the saving ordinances of the gospel. ‘They without us should not be made perfect’ (Hebrews 11:40), and ‘neither can we without our dead be made perfect’ (D&C 128:15)”. The El Dorado Ward will accomplish this by adhering to the following plan:
Increase Temple Attendance
Provide opportunities for members to attend the temple by scheduling 2 ward temple days and 2 youth temple days
Help youth and new converts qualify for and obtain limited use recommends to attend the temple
Identify and help specific individuals to prepare for the temple
Provide a temple prep class for those that are working towards attending the temple for the first time
Encourage Friends and Members to Seek Out their Ancestors
Assist participants in entering at least 4 generations of their family tree on FamilySearch.org
Help new and returning members begin and complete their genealogy
Promote and encourage genealogy work with friends
Share the family search app with friends and family alike
Strengthen Testimonies of Family History Work
Ward leaders will set the example and help members gain a vision of temple and family history work
Provide regular, special sessions in the Family Search Center that allows those unable to attend during the day to attend in the evenings
Hold at least 1 ward activity that focuses on genealogy, providing engaging activities and training sessions for all to learn
Leaders will help people realize the importance of enabling salvation for the dead; they without us cannot be made perfect
